“How wonderful it is to collect enough means for a great cause!” Johann Wolfgang Goethe

The founding of the association was and is based upon the existence of an internationally unique cultural heritage of the Bach venues in Weimar: the only certified residence of Bach and his family still existing today (formerly also in Leipzig, however demolished in 1904 and newly built upon by a third party). The dilapidated remaining parts above ground of the former Weimar Bach House were demolished during the last winter before the fall of the GDR in 1988. However, the original, Thuringian heritage-protected vaulted cellar and foundations dating from the Renaissance still exist underground. Since 1988, they have been covered by a parking lot: a situation that demands a change, now that 20 years have passed since the GDR fall.

Because:
This is the only place existing today that can authentically claim: Johann Sebastian Bach composed here.

At the Weimar Bach House a large part of Bach’s organ works were created, but also early versions of the “Brandenburg Concertos”, over 30 cantatas, numerous solo works for harpsichord (including the “Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue”), as well as parts of the partitas for violin solo. His famous sons Wilhelm Friedemann (born 22 Nov. 1710) and Carl Philipp Emanuel (born 8 March 1714) were born here.
